Fell and broke her hip
“It is so easy for people to take advantage of the elderly. When I got hurt badly one cold rainy night on the way home from my Temple, I needed the help of a lawyer I could trust. Someone who wouldn’t pressure me into doing anything I didn’t want to do, just to make some money
My husband had recently passed away. I had so much on my mind back then I couldn’t even think about suing the homeowner, whose raised sidewalk caused me to trip, fall and break my hip. I was so down. So I called Richard Gurfein, who I had known from my Temple. He was so kind and helpful. He gave me the information and the encouragement I needed to do what I thought was the right thing to do. I didn’t want anyone else to get hurt on that same spot, the way I did.
Mr. Gurfein was so professional. He and his partner, Preston Douglas were always there for me. When I had to go to court and testify he was right there by my side. I never felt frightened. I never felt alone. Mr. Gurfein just told me to be myself and tell the truth, which is exactly what I did. The case didn’t go to trial. All I had to do was answer questions before the judge. I was so relieved.
The case was much shorter than I thought it would be. The judge ruled in my favor.
I was very, very satisfied with the outcome. But, I was sure not to make the woman who owns the house pay more than her insurance company would cover. And, Mr. Gurfein fully supported my wishes. As I said, there was never any pressure on me.
The money I received made it possible for me to go on with my life. I was on crutches for 6 weeks and needed in-home care, which I would never have been able to afford without the settlement money. I never had a big income at my job, neither did my late husband. Now I was by myself. Knowing I have a little money in the bank is such a great comfort.
What I have learned from this experience is that in times of stress, you need people you can count on with a good brain, and a good heart. Richard Gurfein and Preston Douglas are top notch advocates. They helped me get back on my feet.”
